Abstract

Weather information is important for humans. The high rainfall in Bengkalis Island must be predicted to prevent extreme weather phenomena such as storms, heavy rain and snow that can cause disasters. This affects the fields of education and transportation, because many students and employees are late or even get rained on on the road and also affect the safety of ship transportation on Bengkalis Island. So a system was created for real-time weather monitoring by utilizing the Internet of Things. This system consists of an Arduino Mega controller and 7 weather parameter measuring sensors (temperature, humidity, atmospheric pressure, light intensity, wind speed, wind direction, and rainfall. And this system is equipped with a SIM800L GPRS module to connect data to the Firebase real-time server to be displayed on the Android application. Based on the test results, the DHT-22 sensor produced an average error of 1.18% in temperature testing and 0.42% in humidity testing. Testing the wind speed sensor produced an average error of 4.11%. Testing the BH1750 sensor produced an average error of 3.58%, and for testing the BMP280 sensor produced an average error of 0.035%. For testing the wind direction sensor, each direction gets an angle of 44°, except for the north direction which gets an angle of 45° and the northeast direction which gets an angle of 43°. While the rainfall sensor gets an average rainfall value of 1,580 mm on each sensor tip. This research has succeeded in developing a weather monitoring system in real time at the Bengkalis State Polytechnic Campus. This system is able to facilitate users to monitor the weather at the Polbeng campus and Bengkalis Island anytime and anywhere just by using an android smartphone.
